Policies

Class Placement- Students will be placed in classes according to age, ability and experience. Class size is limited for individual attention. Small student/teacher ratios enable the teacher to better monitor your child’s growth and training. Instructors will suggest when your child needs to be placed in a higher class.

Pointe Class - Placement in these classes is by instructor permission only. It is suggested that students taking Pointe classes take a minimum of two ballet classes per week.

Dance Attire- All students are required to wear proper dance attire so that faculty members can monitor proper body alignment. Students must purchase the appropriate shoes after the first lesson. Play clothes are not acceptable after the first class.  Dance supplies are available or may be ordered at our office.

Ballet and Tap- classes require leotards and tights (color choice is optional). Dance skirts, skorts, and shorts are optional.
Jazz & Hip-Hop- classes require snug fitting jazz shorts or dance pants and tops. Gym style shorts and jeans are not acceptable.

Modern and Lyrical- classes require snug fitting jazz shorts or dance pants and tops or leotards; tights are optional.

Hair- Students should wear hair pulled away from their face and fasten it in a neat bun or pony tail.

Performance- The JSDA annual recital will usually be held on the Third Saturday in June. To help defray the costs of the recital (auditorium, personnel, programs, etc.) an admission fee will be charged.

Costume- Each class will have one recital costume ranging in cost from $48-$89. Students who choose to participate in the annual recital will be required to purchase a costume picked out by the teacher. The costume fee is due December 31 so that orders may be placed in January.

Missed Lessons and Class Cancellations- We request that parents/students call the studio when a lesson will be missed. No refund will be given for missed lessons, holidays, or closings due to inclement weather.  During inclement weather we follow the Fairfax County Public School closing policy. However, classes may be held if conditions improve after 12pm.  Please check our website for updates.  Make-up classes will be available through April 1st. Please call the studio for make up class arrangements.

Holidays- JSDA will be closed on Labor Day (9/4), Thanksgiving(11/22 - 11/26), Christmas(12/17 - 1/1) & Spring(3/26 - 3/31) Breaks, President's Day(2/19) and Memorial Day(5/28). The school is not closed on student holidays unless that day is also a Federal holiday.

Registration Fee- All students must register annually. The first quarter payment must include a non-refundable $35 registration fee. This yearly registration fee is only waived when the full annual tuition is received by midnight August 15.

Tuition- May be paid quarterly, by semester or annually. Payments may be made by check, credit card, or cash. See the tuition schedule for pricing and due dates.

Late Fees and Refunds - Tuition will be considered past due after 10 days and a $25 late fee will be applied. Tuition refunds are only available before the second lesson. A $35 bank fee will be charged for any return checks.
